Question
hi there. i have a pet chowchow. female - about 1 and a half months old and she's starting to bite us and it hurts. i'm worried that it could get worst. i've only had her for 3 weeks. lately she's been really agressive with her biting.

i've researched about it and i read something about letting them learn with other pups so they'll learn about bite inhibition. i dont really let her play with my other dogs coz im afraid they might fight.

but after reading that, i now let my other dog play with her. my other dog is several months older and much bigger than my chowchow. they get along well, been wrestling and playing around.

anyway, there's just one thing in my mind. will my pup really learn about bite inhibition from my other dog? or do they only learn it from littermates or her own mother? i just need some sort of reassurance that it will work. and i'd appreciate it if u have any more suggestions to control this OUCH-BITING-HABIT.

hope u could help me with this regard. much thanks!

Answer
Hey,
your pup wil llearn bite behavior from your other dog, it doesn't have to be the pup's mother or siblings. Another suggestion is next time your dog bites you, put your hands around the dog's muzzle and do not let go untill the dog starts to whine. This will not only teach your dog not to bite, it will teach him that you are dominant over him. By tecahing him that you are dominant over him, you will save a lot of early work instead of having to train it later in life. You will have to do this everytime your dog bites you, your dog won't stop form the first time. Don't worry, this does not hurt the dog and is not mean to do, it is dog language.
Good luck, and if you need anything, just e-mail me.
