Registering my dogs

Question
I recently got a notice from my HOA (home owner association asking if we have registered our dogs and if not we will be fine.

Until recently, i did not know that i had to register our pets. So was I doing some reading from a few sites and they had mention that all dogs needs to be register by the age of 3 months.  But one of your answered question said that they dont really need to be register (both are my companion dogs).

My 2 dogs are both 2 years old and we rescued them as puppies from an abandon house. I believe they are a mixed breed, but i'm not sure what they are.

So what should i do? should i register them? with whom? and if i don't need to register them what should i tell my HOA?

Answer

Hi Hong,

I don't know which past message of mine you're referring to, or if you mean "licensed" when you say "registered".

Most communities require dogs to be licensed, no matter what breed they are. This is a very simple process of filing paperwork, and there usually is a small fee for each dog license. If your HOA says they need to have dogs licensed, then you should do it. Otherwise, you may have fees to pay,  and end up needing to get your dogs licensed anyway.

Call your local town hall, or town clerk and ask them how to apply for a dog license. They may be able to just mail you the paperwork, or you might have to go down to your town hall offices and fill them out in person. Depending on where you live, there may be info about how to apply for a dog license on line, at your town's web site (if they have one). You may need to provide proof that your dogs were vaccinated against Rabies. I think that's the only mandated vaccine.

I hope that helps!
