Should i?

Question
there r two parts to this question. i might get a dog around christmas... a long haired chihuahua to be exact. my house has a baby...kinda likes walkin, and a 2 year old who i think has asthma. the chihuahua i am getting is non-hypoallergenic. do u think this is the right hoice? so should i get the dog or not? the second part is that there is a large chance i might move back to my old house (has a terrier mix). Fluffy (the terrier) is kinda old already, and wen we would baby sit another dog she would stay low or if the dog comes near she'll growl (scared probably). they do not have that much height differece. since chihuahua's usually like there own breed, do u think they would get a long after a while? in past answers by experts they said that they would probably get along but u jus have to wait and see. and i really want a furball of my own. so do wat do u think?

Answer
Hi Danielle,
If you want a truly hypo dog You can get one of the hairless varieties.    The dogs I have heard that are:  poodle, Bichon Fise, chinese crested, hairless terrier, maltese.  There may be more, but those are the popular ones.  If your daughter has asthma, I would get one of the above dogs, preferably one of the hairless.  There can be no questions there, right?  The personality of the Chihuahua with children would make me take a second look also.  They are not known to be real sweet.
As far as moving back.  If Fluffy is older, my guess would be she will never like another dog, but from what you tell me, she doesn't seem like she will out and out harm a new dog, maybe just warn and occasionally snap.  Of course, I would be very careful with feeding time and treating time and toys.  This could provoke an argument.  If things don't work out between them, there is always a gate to separate them.

Good luck,
nancy
