Question
I have a make shit-zu, about 10 years old, named Brandy. I adopted him mainly for my widowed ailing father 3 years ago. my dad just passed away in June. Brandy has had to go through alot of changes. Not only have we moved twice in the last 4 months, but he misses just hanging out at the big country house watching tv with dad. (I live in an apartment). brandy has always had separation anxiety, and now he has it really bad. Since my dad died he has been peeing in the bed (he sleeps with me), and sometimes on the couch. I know he feels bad about it. He does have to pee alot. When he lived with my dad, he did pee occassionally in the basement because I wasn't always around to let him out. He has a heart murmur but otherwise no health problems. He also has an unusually large penis for a 10 pound dog. I know he is aging but he has lots of energy for a 10 year old dog. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Brenna;
Other than having him checked for a bladdr and kidney problem, he is pretty old, I am sure the changes and missing your dad is very hard for him.
I have one suggestion that I feel would help you with him.
I have used the Tellington-Touch of animal massage for years as a training tool, and to help with behavior problems as well as pain relief.
A good massage will help an Arthritic dog move better for longer, with fewer meds.
I have cured dogs of anxiety, excessive barking, aggression, and fear of thunderstorms for a few things.
Go to this website and read about the massages and you can order a video from ther to learn how to do the massages.
I think a massage would do a lot for the anxiety.

That and lots of love and understanding from you.
How about making a pad for him to sleep on?
I have been seeing pads to put on couches and chairs with a roll around 3 sides to keep the dog hair and dirt off the furniture.
They are very expensive, and they would be very easy to make if you sew at all.
You could get the peepee pads to put in the little bed, and it would keep your bed clean, and still allow hi to sleep cuddled up with you.
You both share the same grief.
