ANSWER: Your bitch needs to be seen by a veterinarian for proper diagnosis and treatment as she most likely would be put on antibiotics. Since she is an advanced age, there is also a chance that this could be some sort of tumor, and the vet would need to determine that.

In the meantime, you could use some sort of triple-antibiotic cream on her open wound, but you need to keep her from licking it off by using an elizabethan collar or some other restraint.

QUESTION: Thank you for your advice Karen.
She is already on antibiotics and is not suffering .
She is still very lively and eats well.
Instead of a cream , can you recommend a spray?

As she is old , do you think she can undergo surgery ?
Thank you Kren

Gilbert

Answer
You might be able to get an antibiotic spray from your veterinarian.

As to surgery at her age, that should be a discussion between you and your veterinarian, weighing the positives and negatives of surgery at her age. The vet would certainly want to do a blood workup beforehand to see if she is healthy enough to survive surgery.
