Question
I want to know what options are available to me in having my dog groomed. Is there a basic list ie.. bathing, nail clipping... Is there special services people often asked.  Someone said you can have a hot oil treatment.  I have never been to a groomer who has a sign/list of the different services so I feel maybe I should be asking for something but don't know what.

Answer
Hi Kelly,
Most grooming shops offer the basics,  bath and brush, haircutting.  What you need to ask is what goes along with these services.  Bath and Brush may or may not include the following:  anal glands expressed, nails filed or cut, ears cleaned and/or plucked,  massage, flea shampoos/dips treatments, deep conditioning rinses,  different type of health enhancing shampoos, (oatmeat, citris eg.), eye wash.
Grooms usually can (but may not)include the above and include some type of haircut.  Haircuts can be minimum as in just a light trim with the above or premium which means a more extensive cut.  This cut could be due to preference or necessity if the dog is in bad condition.  Most shops today offer toothbrushing which is usually an extra charge.  This is not scaling of the teeth, it is just brushing usually with an enzyme toothpaste that helps prevent plague. Most shops offer bows and bandanas.
In some of the elite shops there are hot oil treatments and extras.  Nail grinding instead of cutting, dematting instead of shaving.  Hand blown drying instead of cage drying.  One on one treatment, in other words, they do one dog at a time only, not several.  If I think of more I will email again.  My brain is tired tonight after a long day.
Hope this helps you out.
