Question
We are fostering a one year old miniature pinscher whose old owners we think abused her and neglected her.She barks ferociously and show her teeth when ever a man enters the room. How can i fix this issue cause she already snapped at my Step Father and want to now how to fix her miss trust in men?

Answer
Expect this to take time.  It could be due to either abuse on the part of a man earlier, or just a failure to be exposed to men before it was 12 weeks old.  First, give her good leadership.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. When a man comes around, greet him warmly.  Let her know you are happy, and she is more likely to follow yur lead.  control your emotions.  If you let her stress you, she will interpret it as being caused by the man, confirming to her they are not to be trusted.  Have them avoid towering over her, exposing their teeth by smiling, or making eye contact.  All are threatening.  Instead, they should stoop down and offer her treats.  It will take time, but eventually she should accept them.
