Crate wetting

Question
My 5 month old weimeraner sleeps in her crate (on averge 8 hours per night) without any problem. She does not like to be put in her crate during the day. Over the last couple days she has been left in her crate for 3 hours, less than half an hour and 4 hours. All three times she has wet her crate. This is something new as she has been left in her crate for the same amount of time in the past without wetting. What is going on?  Thank you

Answer
Hi Kim;
I would think this is a power play, spite or rebellion.
I don't use crates at all, So I have no experience dealing with this problem.
I would say handle it like any housebreaking accident, and scold and see that she is not in there when she has just eaten etc, so that she will not have the need to go to the bathroom.
If she has water in the crate with her, then she may drink and cannot hold her bladder that long.
She is sort of young to have complete control over her organs moving.
On the other hand, she could be doing it because she doesn'y like being in the crate in the daytime, and is trying to get your attention.
It really sounds more like rebellion and trying to do something you dislike, because you oput her in her crate in the daytime.
Is there a tiled floored room where she could be put if you ahve to leave in the daytime.
8 hours at night, and then several times, especially for 4 hours during the daytime is a long time for her to have to be so confined.
I just do not like crates.
I think they are too confining, and more like a prison than a "den", as some call them.
We have to crate the animals at the rescue shelters I work with, and I have never seen a dog yet that likes them.
They are more like, resigned, that they have to stay in them, and we take them out for walks often.
I don't use crates for my own dogs, and I don't use them for dogs I foster.
Dogs are too easy to train to go where you want them to go, whether it is outside or on a puppy pad etc.
They have litter trays for dogs now, and a special doggy litter.
I would suggest you give that a try and train he to go potty in the litter tray.
