Question
My husband and children want to adopt a 7 week old akita-lab mix from a coworker. We have had a dog in the past who recently past away due to age and medical issues.  My question is that since then my daughter has a cat now about 1 year old. Do you have some suggestions about how to make this transition.  Also what are some key points that we should know about the dog in general.

Thanks,
Brenda

Answer
The best way with a cat is have places where the cat can hide, but since you are getting a young puppy they should be able to tolerate each other and even become friends

Now for the puppy in general, because he/she is so young,it might be a good idea to bring a stool sample to the vet to check for worms, and also make sure he/she gets all of the puppy shots, and crate training is a good way to house break a puppy
