Question
I have a lab and I notice he slobbers alot. This usually happens after he eats and drinks. Sometimes when urinates he will slobber slightly..I do not know if this is normal or a possible sign of rabies. He only got out about one time and he is due for a shot. What are some abvious signs I should look for??

Answer
I sincerely doubt that this is rabies. Some dogs just slobber more than others due to the way their mouths (flews) are made. If you think he is drooling excessively, it could be that he has a bad tooth, and that determination would have to be made by your veterinarian.

Rabies vaccinations are good for much longer than three years (they think as long as 7 years or even life), but state law is what dictates that we must vaccinate every three years.

Since you did ask, here are the symptoms of rabies: http://www.animalhealthchannel.com/rabies/symptoms.shtml

Your dog does not have rabies, Richard.
