dog feces

Question
After my dog has what appears to be a normal bowel movement, she will then excrete a gelatinous substance.  This substance is primarily clear with some tinges of perhaps blood.  She has previously been treated for tapeworm after eating a rabbit and was treated for an intestinal virus about 1 month ago. I took her in today after seeing a roundworm in her stool.  She is on medication for that.  Is this gelatinous substance just a result of these problems or is it something else.  My dog is about 10 months old and is current on all vaccinations.  She is on Heartgard and Frontline. Any info would be appreciated.

Answer
Hey Jeri. This stool is more than likely just a result of all the GI upset she has been experiencing. Between the worms & the virus, I'm sure that's all it is. As long as she is eating, drinking, feeling good, & having no vomiting or diarrhea; she should be just fine. If the "gelatin" feces goes on for more than 3-4 days, I would contact your vet & just let them know. They might have to put her on a GI antibiotic. Thanks for being such a good pet owner!
