Question
Im a Chow Chow lover (as i previously had the pleasure of the Company of a Chow Chow (BUZZ),he was my best friend, unfortunately he passed away a year ago at the age of 6 Months -Health Complications- after spending the best three Months together. ). I previously refused of even thinking of the idea of getting a new dog as his death left a big hole in my heart.

My family and friends are encoureging me to get a new friend. which i am now convinced i should.

I have a couple of questions before i committ to the idea.

- I live in Jordan
- Temp. Summer of 20-40Degree C and 0-10Degree C Winter).
- I live in a 200M2 Appartment.
- I work from 9 till 6 Pm.

Is the weather suitable for Chow Chows? Is the appartment big enough for him? because of work i have to leave him alone from 9-6. is that ok?

I would also appreciate if you have any advice on Chow Chows.

Answer
Hi Saleem, sorry I took so long.

Chows can be good dogs for those work hours. As they are not very active. As long as you spend quality time with them when you are at home. Also they require alot of training and socialization. As for the weather, there is a ahorter caote version of the chow. It is a chow, and the short caots are not as common. But just to let you know, as long as your dog has plenty of fresh water, and shade, he will be fine. The long coat will insulate him from the heat.

I say, as long as you are dedicated to spending almost all your free time with your dog, go for it. Try a dog rescue program, then you will know what the dog is like. An adult dog would be a better choice for you, as housetraining takes ALOT of time.

And, if you do plan on a puppy, make sure your find a repuatable breeder. One breeding for temperment and health first. You don't want more heartache down the road. And talk to different breeders, and go to shows, read books, and talk to trainers about chows. Some people are biased when it comes to chows. I myself would never own one, because of my lifestyle. They are gaurd dogs, and are very much a one person dog.

I hope I have helped.
