Question
Can anyone tell me the approximate size (weight height, lbs) a standard schnauzer puppy is at 10 weeks old ? And also what is the best pet travel carrier to bring him home on the plane? Thanks

Answer
Hi Jan,

At 10 weeks old, a Standard Schnauzer puppy could weight somewhere between 8-11 pounds.

Since you're asking about traveling with a small puppy, I will assume that you will be keeping the puppy with you on the plane, and that you're not shipping the puppy as cargo.

Your pet carrier needs to small enough to fit beneath the seat. Generally, the maximum size for cabin pet carriers is 23" long x 13" wide x 9" high. Animals must be able to stand up, turn around and lie down in a natural position in the kennel. Soft-sided pet carriers are accepted as long as they are constructed of water-repellent, padded nylon with mesh ventilation on two or more sides. You should confirm the size with whatever airline you're traveling with, as they can differ from airline to airline.

My personal preference are the lightweight semi-rigid padded nylon style carriers. I think they're more comfortable to carry, and they have a shoulder strap. Here's an example of that style carrier:

Best of luck,
