Yorkie puppy aggression

Question
I have a 7 week old female Yorkie puppy that lives indoor with my 11 year old neutered Wheaton Terrier.  The puppy is biting and barking alot at our family as well as the Wheaton.  The Wheaton has been obedienced trained and is excellent with the puppy - walks away sometimes growling and tries to ignore.  The puppy continually will bite the Wheatons back legs and bark following him around.  Tonight the Wheaton pinned the Yorkie to the ground with a tremendous growl.  Help!

Answer
Gerette, your Wheaton is simply teaching the puppy some manners. Generally, puppies are left with their littermates until 8 weeks of age, because it is during the period between 6 and 8 weeks that puppies learn bite inhibition and begin learning about dominance, submission, and basic doggie etiquette. Since your puppy was removed from his littermates before 8 weeks, your older dog is having to do all of this. DO NOT scold or punish your older dog for putting the puppy in her place! He is behaving completely normally, and your puppy NEEDS him to discipline her. When he puts her in her place, just leave them alone. If your puppy continues to annoy him after he has told her off, you should put her in her crate for a few minutes to chill out. No more than 5 or 10 minutes is probably sufficient to calm her down and make her forget about trying to annoy him. Do not let her out of the crate if she cries and whines; wait until she has stopped before going over and opening the crate door.

I wish you lots of luck with your pup! Please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with!
