large liters

Hi Nancy,
I heard that it's not good for a dog to have a large liter of pups because it could cause them to have problems or be mentally retarded, is this true?     thank you

Danielle,
the only problem I know of in large litters is that fact that it is a drain on the mom and you may have to supplement with bottle feeding.  So the answer is:  no it is not true that you will have retardation.  The mom, however during whelping may have problems tiring or losing muscle contraction after the she has 8 or so.
