i have a chihuahua that is a little over a year old. she is in heat . she is exciting our 9 month old golden retreiver and she is trying to mate with the cat.needless to say,it is causing quite a ruckuss at the old homestead. my question is how long will this last and when can i get her spayded?

the issue here is when to spay, some veterinarians will spay a four month old puppy, most will spay by six months. you may find a vet who will spay while she is in heat, but with additional fees due to the risk factors. I would suggest talking to your veterinarian about this and scheduling an appointment for around one month from the day she started her heat cycle,(first sign of bloody discharge) as she should be fininshed with her heat in 21 days from that day. Also, keep her away from any un-neutered male until then.  you can also take up any behavioral issues with a referal to a local trainer, when you make the appointment.
