12 year old greyhound: Stroke or sudden balancing problems

Question
Hi, we have a 12 year old greyhound and she's doing really well for her age except that earlier this week one night something happened to her that made her very unsteady on her back legs. Her head was also a bit tilted which lead us to think she had a stroke.

We took her to the vet and they did blood and urine test and told us that there's nothing wrong with her kidneys of liver, gave us antibiotics. Her symptoms (head tilt and staggering) have gone away in a day and she was being completely normal until this morning after her breakfast she started having balancing problems again.

This time there's no other symptoms like tilted head that would suggest a stroke, so I started to wonder if there's something else that's the problems. I phoned the vet who told me that there might be something else like an ear infection that does this, in which case we should let the antibiotics deal with it.

What I find strange about this is that she seems rather steady on her front legs, it's only her back legs (especially the right leg) that she seemingly finds hard to coordinate. Other than that she's perfectly normal, not upset and eats properly.

I was wondering if there's anything else that can cause a sudden loss of balance -- or is it definitely neurological?

Many thanks.

Answer
If it's not a stroke then I would think it's an ear infection,  but the back legs movement doesn't sound connected.  Is it possible that the back legs have just succumbed to old age?  It sounds like arthritis in her back legs, or possibly hip displasia?

Tell me what you think.
