5 year old dogs suddenly having accidents in the house

Question
We have two five year old chocolate labs.  They are litter mates, and usually well-trained and very gentle with our two small children and obedient and loving with us. For the last six days, however, someone has been having accidents in the house (we don't know which one--it only happens at night or when we are out.)  Almost always urine, but this morning there was poop as well.  They seem to know that one of them has done something wrong, b/c the first tip off that there was an accident is that they are hiding in the corner and won't look at us.  I'm at home all day, so they have plenty of opportunity to go out, and they are walked once a day.  Are they angry at us?  Trying to be dominant?  Scared of something?  Stressed out? Just being naughty?  Any insight would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Kerry-

The first thing I would do, if in your situation, is a vet check for both of them to make sure its not medical.

Not medical, then move to behavioral. Its time for a refresher course! Go back to using crates and leashing them to you when you are in the house so you can monitor their bathroom habits, and get them out before they go in the house. You will learn more about the "Why" when you learn who it is, and when they are doing it. There is always some kind of trigger!

Let me know if you need any more help!

thanks!
