pomeranian biting paws

Question
i have a 4 year old healthy pom- he gets groomed on a regular basis and i have not seen any flees on him. for the past week or so he has been constantly biting at his front paws. on one paw i did notice a small red swelled up bump. should i call the vet or is there something i can try at home for him?

Answer
Hi Rachel-

That certainly sounds like contact dermatitis. Try benedryl spray- you can pick it up at any CVS and spray the paw 2-3 times. Keep an eye on him- it may be that he just got bit by an ant or stung by a bee, or he may be showing the first signs of an allergic reaction to something more annoying.

Hope he feels better!
