Question
I have a four pound two year old Pomeranian who just had new pups on March 25 th. Her babies are so tiny only weighing between 3 and 4 oz. i am not sure mom has milk or enough milk for them. her tits are very small almost like before she got pregnant. the pups nurse but am scared they are getting nothing. How can i tell? they have not gained hardly any weight and even though i know they will be small dogs i am very concerned. should i take her to the vet?

Answer

Hi Pam,

Absolutely! When you think it could be a matter of life and death, you should always consult a veterinarian!

In this case, your dog's puppies lives depend on being able to nurse. Your vet can best advise if the pups are healthy, being fed, or if need be show you how to bottle feed the babies.

Best of luck,

Patti
