Rectal Bleeding

Question
Hello! Yesterday morning my 8 year old had a very soft (not watery) and yellowish bowel movement. He seemed ok after wards but exactly 7 hours later, he refused to go for his afternoon potty walk and that's when I noticed fresh blood dripping from his anus. There was no blood in his stools and no vomiting. He seems a little lethargic & doesn't drink much water but has a good appetite. He had his anal gland sacks emptied and was wormed very recently. What do you thick may have caused the rectal bleeding?? :( I would greatly appreciate a prompt reply. Thank you ever so much!

Answer
Dear Ariadne,

Thank you for writing to me.  Blood dripping from the anus is not a good sign and your dog should be looked at immediately by your vet. The cause could be from a variety of factors and only your vet can determine how serious this is.  Please do not gamble with your dog's health.  I strongly advise you to have him checked out by a medical professional.

Best Regards,
