Question
We have a springer. He will be 5 this summer. We love him like crazy. He is funny, loveable, and normal in every way except for when he eats our shoe laces. Silly I know but this cant be good for him when we are running out the door only to discover we have no laces well this throws everything off. We do crate him when we are gone. He does this when we are not looking. I think he might suffer from some sort of anxiety but we are home when he does this. And he is able to be with us. So I dont understand his behavior. This all started about a yr ago. I fell asleep watching tv and he ate a shoe except for the sole, a kitchen rug and lots of laces. I had to give mineral oil to loosen him up. Thank god it worked. Since then he's gotten a couple of laces with the last episode my husband went to take a shower before bed and then crated him so while he was in the shower he ate 2 laces. He loves to be with us but sometimes likes to sleep in a recliner in the other room. We now cant leave him alone at all. My husband is ready to give him away. I cant as he is very much part of this family. The kids would be heartbroke. Any ideas on how we can get past this?

Answer
There's a product that you can buy in any petstore called 'bitter apple' and what you do is spray it on anything that the dog eats/chews,and it doesn't hurt the dog but tastes really bad so they spit it out and stop, after a while you won't have to use it-the dog will remember how bad it tastes
