Answer

Hi Tamer,

Dogs are individuals, just like people. Working with a private trainer probably has helped your puppy, whether or not you are aware of it. You should continue to work with the trainer because your dog is still a puppy. That said, your puppy has his own personality just as you have, and that won't change. It especially won't change by taking this out on your puppy. It sounds like it's your friends that you need to neglect for a little while, and who are the real problem here.

If you feel like you can't love your puppy, or the dog he's growing into because of his personality, then do yourself and your puppy a favor, and give him up to either a rescue group that re-homes Golden Retrievers, or a "no kill" animal shelter, or commit yourself to this puppy, and do right by him. Those are your options. Your puppy deserves an owner who will love him for who he is, and you shouldn't feel "embarrassed" by your dog.

Best of luck.
