Question
I have just adopted a 2 year old female Boston from a family who has kept her as an outdoor dog.  I have her confined in the kitchen and crate her for the night.  She is taken out appropriately after meals and water and before bedtime, etc. for relief, but all she does is stand on the grass and run toward the kitchen door.  I picked her up yesterday at 5 pm and she has not eliminated yet (24 hours later)

What do I need to do to help her learn to go potty outside?

Answer
Some dogs become location-trained in their potty habits, and I think this is her problem. Just give her time and she will eventually go... just make sure it is outside! Be there with her to give her lots of praise for going in the right spot.

Treat her just like a new puppy. Keep her crated when you cannot watch her. Since she hasn't pottied in such a long time, I would be sure to keep her crated until she does go. Take her outside every couple of hours until she is successful.
