Seizures

Question
For the past 4 months my 14 year old chuhuahuah mix has been having seizures. She loses her balance and her eyes twitch back and forth for about a minute and she gets up and she's back to normal. She does go to the bathroom uncontrollably during the seizures.
Well, this past Friday night her legs started giving out on her and she has been out of it for the past 3 days. She cant walk to her food bowl without stumbling or falling. She is very weak. I took her to the vet Sunday and he gave her an injection in the rectum of Diazepam for seizures. It is like she never came out of the sezure. The vet directed me to double her dose of the Phenobarbital. She is still eating and still responds to my voice. Does this sound like something that she will come out of? If she doesn't show any fast improvement I will have to make a decision to put her to sleep.

Answer
At your dog's advanced age, I sincerely doubt that there is much hope of her recovery. She might possibly have a brain tumor. But one thing I would try before making that final decision is to take her off all foods with grains. (And beware if you are feeding Nutro; I am still hearing recent reports of sick dogs that are on it.)

Here is a veterinarian with some most radical comments. Please read his site thoroughly! http://dogtorj.tripod.com/ Primarily, he feels that seizures are due to gluten-intolerance. His article, "The Answer", is extremely thought-provoking.

Making this small effort won't hurt, and it just might help! Good luck with your ol' gal and give her a hug from me.
