2 MALE DOGS FIGHTING

Question
Help please the dogs are ruling my life.  I have a 4 year old chocolate labrador and a 4 year old golden retreiver who constantly fight when they are in the house or out the back garden.   The labrador attacks the retreiver the majority of the time.  I have owned the lab since he was 3 months old and he has lived with only me for the 2 1/2 years.  The golden retreiver joined us 1 and 1/2 years ago.  We have been to dog school to no avail.  The dogs get on fine outside of the home and will sit and stay together for my boyfriend.  The lab will sit and stay for me but the retreiver won't. Last week the two dogs had a fight and the retreiver bit me when I tried to seperate them.  The dogs are kept seperate the majority of the time, one out back and one in the kitchen. Both dogs are not neutered.  Help please, I can no longer cope with the two of them.  Julie

Answer
Hi Julie,

Your problem stems from having two healthy un-neutered adult male dogs. They're acting like two un-neutered male dogs are supposed to act!

Your solution starts with having both of your dogs neutered!! Contact your vet, local shelter, or humane association to find a reduced cost neutering program in your area.

Until you do that, you need to be diligent about keeping your dogs separated, or consider re-homing one of your two dogs. Living like this is very stressful on them (and on you).

Best of luck,

Patti
