My pup and older dog dont like each other!

Question
I have a nearly 10 year old kelpie cross and have recently introduced a 9 week
old border collie.  On their own both dogs are great, but together there is
some real conflict.   The pup Sammi thinks she is ten foot tall and bullet proof
and just stands there and barks at Piper who just takes it for a short while
and then starts barking back.  Sammi is very smart and learning quickly but I
am using liver treats to train her which is driving Piper mad because she
keeps wanting them and all the chew toys that Sammi has.  Piper is normally
a very quiet dog but a loves being with the family and I know she is being
really put out by this very demanding baby.  I would really appreciate some
advice on how to teach them to get along.

Answer
Once past 3 years old, many dogs don't want anything to do with puppies, their sharp little teeth, and their biting games.  You need to teach the puppy to leave the older dog alone.  As soon as the puppy starts to focus on the older dog, give it a sharp ''Ah, ah, ah!'' and offer it a chew toy.

Make sure Piper continues to get plenty of attention.  You don't need things such as the liver.  A little of the dog's kibble will do fine as training treats and upset Piper less.
