Shih Pooh

My 19 month old Shih Pooh is sneezing and licking her nose.  She also when she gets excited she starts to choke and has a hard time breathing.  She is fine after she relaxes.  The sneezing just started and it is not constant.  What could it be?  I just had her to the vet and they said that she was okay.

She probably has a cold. How long ago did you have her at the vet's? Did you specifically ask about the sneezing and nose-licking?


The fact that she seems to choke and have a hard time breathing, though, could indicate a problem with her trachea or other breathing passages. If it's something that happens frequently, I would have the vet check to make sure her trachea isn't collapsing, and that her nasal cavities are normal.

Some dogs will become so excited that they have a sneezing fit. I have a dog like this, but she does not have trouble breathing.
