My dog is attacking other dogs

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I feel grave concern with the recent behavior of my 2 year old Australian Silky terrier. He's recently become very aggressive towards (meeting) other dogs, especially puppies. It hasn't mattered if he, or the other dog was on a leash or not, and this has happened in my store (where I take him everyday and occasionally a customer brings in their dog to "meet" Chester)as well as in the park. I've seen both case scenario's where he will go up to another dog and everything seems fine but within a few moments Chester is attacking the other dog...the other case is he will just run up to another dog and go into attack mode immediately. No provocation by the other animal at all. Any idea's as to what's happening with my dog? We recently moved from an area where there weren't many other animals around and now we're living in a residential area where there are alot of animals around in the neighborhood. Could this be the problem? Could it be he wasn't dog socialized enough where we lived before over the past 2 years? He was taken to puppy training and we did socialize him there and was taken to dog parks etc on a regular basis....just recently we haven't taken him out as much as we've been busy building a store and a house, but we just haven't taken him around other dogs much over  probably about the last 8 months or so. He doesn't ALWAYS attack but more frequently he does. What can I do to get this problem in check before someone sends the "authorities" to my home to take my dog to go put him down because he's so "violent"? HELP!

ANSWER: Well, first if he isn't neutered getting him done will greatly reduce dog aggression in him

Another thing that works is to go to a friend's house(not the other way around, that will make your dog territorial) that has a dog(if you can, with a dog that is close to his size),and muzzle both dogs,so they can't hurt each other-and let them meet up,that way your dog will learn other dogs won't hurt him-he might not like other dogs, but usually it will at least get him to ignore other dogs

After a few meet ups(do it a couple of times over a few weeks)he probably won't bother as much with other dogs, and in fact may cure him

QUESTION: Thank you for your advice and I will give your muzzle suggestion a try. The first thing you mentioned about his aggressive behavior was to have him neutered. He was neutered when he was about 8 months old so I guess that doesn't have anything to do with it. Do you think it would help if I took him to a dog day care once or twice a week to socialize him with other dogs abit more? Thanks

Answer
Ok,that is good that he is fixed,as intact dogs are generally more dog aggressive-but some still are after getting done

Well first you will want to try the muzzling for a while, before taking him to a doggie day care or park as terriers are famous for getting into fights

but once he gets at least used to other dogs it might be a good idea to have him be with dogs unmuzzled, that way he won't go back to hating them
