Question
We recently adopted a 7 month old lab/hound mix rescue.  She was very hesitant about being put on a leash at all in the beginning and would have to be dragged (not literally) outside where she would just sit by the door on the leash and cry.  She is pretty good about physically going outside now with our 3 year old boxer, but she still won't go to the bathroom outside at all, only in the house.  What can we do?  We have tried some of the techniques I have read about but nothing seems to work.  Help!

Answer
Well there's a number of things you can try with the house training

First, you can try a crate, and keep the dog in there at all times, and only let the dog out to go outside,to be fed,to be played with ect and do that for about 3 weeks, and then slowly let her out more-and if she makes an accident she goes back in the crate full time for about 10 days or so

the other alternative you can use is puppy pads, keep her gated into one room and put down puppy pads and slowly move them closer to the door

for the leash problem sometimes what helps is to attach the leash and just let the dog drag it for a few days,a week even, then pick up the leash and just follow the dog around, then once she is used to that, just gently 'guide' her around the yard
