Rawhide chews

Question
There appears to be some conflicting opinion on the use of rawhide chews.  I have read that they are indigestible and can injure a dog's intestines, but another source has suggested their usefulness in redirecting an aggressive, arm-biting and chewing dog.  Would you weigh in on this?

Answer
Absolutely. I do not advocate rawhide chews ever for any reason. Aggression has nothing to do with redirection and everything to do with retraining, and establishing yourself as pack leader. Type alpha dog boot camp into your webbrowser, and implement ALL of their suggestions. First and foremost, WALK your dog. Power walk, forty five minutes a day at heel, rain shine sleet or snow.
As to chews, I prefer smart toys, that dogs have to work with, using their minds and their teeth. And treat stuffed kongs,. changed out frequently to prevent boredom,
Another VERY important thing is to WORK your dog,. tire him out. At least three times a week he should work or play until his tongue hangs out. Watch the protein levels of your dog food as well. Too much protein for a dog that is sedentary, especially a working breed, is like adding fuel to the flame. They have ALL that energy with no outlet. Much the same as feeding a pony ridden a couple of times a month the same feed you feed a high powered race horse. You're asking for trouble.
Either way, stay away from the rawhide. :)
