Question
My mother and I got a new chihuahua mixed with dochson puppy and my grandparents where trying to get her to like them and they gave her coffee icecream im not sure if coffee products are poisonus to dogs or not

Answer
As far as I know, coffee isn't a real problem.  The less a dog gets other than its dog chow, the better.  Modern dog chows are carefully formulated to give dogs the complete and balanced diet they need.  Any ice cream has fat and sugar in it.  Well, some of it has artificial sweeteners in it, and they can be worse for a dog than sugar.  You might do better to give them some regular dog treats for her.

Be very careful about her weight.  Puppies often come from the breeder overweight.  Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs. There was an extensive discussion of weight in a recent newsletter from a service dog school.

''Obesity is the number one nutritional disease affecting dogs. It's estimated that 25-45% of dogs in the US are obese. Studies have shown that joint and locomotive problems increase by 57%, circulatory problems by 74%, respiratory problems by 52%, skin problems by 40% and cancer by 50% in animals that are overweight.

That school breeds Chihuahuas to train for the hearing impaired.
