My dog doesnt like my husband

Question
Hi Kristin,

We have an 8 month old welsh springer spaniel puppy, who wont go near my
husband. We have had him for two months now- we got him from his
breeder. He was kenneled with his brother, and was used to his breeder and
her husband.

He was great with my husband for the first two days but then suddenly it all
changed, there was nothing in-particular that sparked this. He barks when
my husband enters the room he is in, and occasionally pees in fright. The
dog is fine with me and my children.

When my husband is around it is as though Dylan (our dog) can not relax. He
paces up and down, runs in and out of the room and if he does settle the
minute my husband moves he starts off again. Dylan does seem to be
curious of my husband it is almost as if he wants to like him but isnt sure, he
often runs towards him then backs off.

We have tried ignoring him. My husband has tried giving the dog treats in an
attempt to stop him being so wary. My husband also started feeding him
although this wasnt always possible as he works late.

Dylan is also very wary of visitors who come to our home.

Can you suggest anything more we can do to combat this problem?

Thank you,   Bernie

Answer
Probably the best way would be to have a trainer come to your house, and see how your dog is like with your husband-and you can look in the phone book and call trainers that do training at people's houses, also, your vet may know as well

That's the best way because the trainer can see the problems you are having in the house,as well as showing you how to correct this-as each dog is different,so a trainer is the best way to go
