Question
my ? is my pit bull just had her first delivery of puppies. should we keep puppies with her or keep them away from her, we removed the puppies from the mother because she was laying completely over them to the point that we felt she was suffocating them, we had to removed on of them and give it mouth to mouth, right now we have the puppies in the house and away from mother, we are feeding the puppies by bottle

Answer
The mother and puppies should be inside in a whelping box with pig rails to prevent the mother from squishing the puppies against the side of the box. If she is attempting to smother them on purpose (highly possible) then keep the puppies away from the mother for now. I highly suggest tube feeding over bottle feeding, but if you have never tube fed or do not want to take them to the vet to learn how to do it, then don't attempt it as you can easily flood the lungs. Watch the mother to make sure she doesn't get mastitis from not having the puppies nursing.
