sick 5 month Mini Daschund

Question
I have a 5-Month old Mini Daschund that is very ill. I can't afford to take her to the vet unless I know that it's something I can't take care of. Two days ago I caught her chewing up a roll of toilet paper. I think she may have eaten some. Shortly after, she started to vomit. It's not constant. The first day she vomited 3 times. Yesterday she vomited 2 times and so far this morning she has vomited twice. She wont eat or drink anything.  I've resorted to forcing water down her because I'm afraid of her getting dehydrated. I'm not sure about her stools. At first she had diarriha and it was just liquid. Yesterday she didn't have a bm at all until late last night. It was a little firm. but still pretty loose. I think she may also have a fever.  All she wants to do is sleep.  She wont get up and even come to me.  I'm very concerned about her and will more than likely take her to the vet today but I'm still looking for some advise. Can you help?
Thanks,
Teri

Answer
Hi Teri,

Frankly, you can't afford NOT to take your dog to the vet immediately.

Your dog may well have an intestinal blockage, also known as a bowel obstruction, or blocked bowel. An intestinal blockage is most often caused by a gastrointestinal foreign body (your dog swallowed something he shouldn't have). If the blockage interferes with the flow of blood to the bowel, intestinal strangulation will occur, and the bowel will start to rot within a few hours. Untreated intestinal blockages can lead to death of the dog.

My advice is don't waste another day debating this. Just like children, our pets occasionally need medical care. Not proving that care is nothing short of neglect.

Ask your vet if you can work out a payment schedule, so you can pay off the bill over an agreed upon period of time.

I hope I've been a help.

Best of luck,
Patti
