Question
Hi i have 2 4yr old standard schnauzers, recently one of them has got to identical bald patches on either side of her back legs, one bigger than the other, they are not circular or itchy so i don't think it ringworm, we are booking a vet appointment soon but i just wondered if there were any diseases related to baldness in schnauzers? we give her good food (it's hypoallergenic) though i thought it could be the fact that i've just starated a new job he the dogs are left alone for longer than the used to be, maybe it's stress related ... she is a bit nervy? any ideas ? thanks

Answer
There is nothing related to schnauzers that I am aware of, and in fact, everything I can think of from parasites to bacterial infections are usually accompanied by itching.

That said, I will venture a guess that it is from stress and the dog is chewing on itself. Try giving the dog some good things to chew on, such as a Kong toy with good treats inside, and when you are home, give the dog plenty of exercise to try to tire it out a bit.
