Question
We recently got the 1 yr old female rott,- not spayed and she had worms when we first got her. ive been worming her myself and i think it is working but i dont really know what her problem is or what to do for her. she has once in a while been going outside doing her business number 1 and 2 coming back inside 5 mins later pooping on the living room carpet. then about another 3 minutes after that pooping again. once again on the carpet. any ideas on what could be causing this? do you think its from the wormer treatment i gave her a few weeks ago? Please help any training advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Answer
There could be several issues here.  Worm medicine often does cause digestive upset. She could just need another week or 2 to settle down.  She could need more exercise while she is out to stimulate her body to eliminate.  Are you allowing her to stay out as long as she wants?  You may need to walk her on leash.

The last issue is leadership.  She could be using fouling the house to challenge your place.  If so, you need to spay her and obedience train her.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
