Dogs Pooping in undesirable spot on lawn

Question
Hi-

I have two great dogs, and have recently moved from a large ranch to a small subdivision house.  My dogs are now pooping on my lawn.  I have created a great sand pit for them to poop in, but they ignore it and just keep pooping on the lawn.  I keep cleaning up the poop off of the lawn and move it to the sand pit and the process seems like a never ending cycle.  What can I do to entice the dogs to poop in the sand pit and not on the lawn.

Thank You

Ty

Answer
Hi Ty,

If you're not around to supervise your dogs as to where in the backyard they should relieve themselves, you need to put up some form of fencing to protect the areas you don't want them to use.

This doesn't have to be expensive, and it doesn't have to be permanent. It's very possible that after a few months of having fencing, if you were to remove it, your dogs would still only use the areas where they previously had access to.

There are many forms of fencing and edgings that you install by just pushing it into the ground. The size of your dogs should be a consideration as to how high the fencing should be. Prices and styles vary, and most are available at your local garden store or home stores.
Here's some examples of the kind of fencing I'm talking about:
