milk engorgement

My Lhasa Apso had one puppy just over two weeks ago now, both are well. However i have noticed that two of my bitches milk glands have become badly engorged and hard to touch. She seems very uncomfotable with them and the puppy will not feed from them. How do i manage to resolve this and make my little doggy a happy girl again? i knew that with having only one pup, this would be something to look out for in particular but don't know what to do.

Hi Fiona,  Your female has mastitis, and needs medical attention.  She will needs antibiotics, as well as heat packs to bring down the swelling.  You do not want to try to milk her out as it will be extremely painful and make matters worse.  Hope this helps,
