Female boxer no heat cycle

Question
I have a 13 month old female boxer, who still has not gone into heat.  She is a healthy girl who has no health problem.  Should I be concerned?

Answer
Dogs can come into heat very early, especially larger breeds. There's not specific time frame, although there is a normal range. Your girl is definitely to the time in her life when she should be coming into heat. Some girls just like to wait a bit longer. Next time you have her to the vet,  just have him examine her to be sure she has reproductive organs (ovaries etc) but I wouldn't be concerned. Most likely she will be coming into heat any day now. I would expect for sure by eighteen months. Most large breeds come in around nine months of age, A false heat, or a silent heat isn't unlikely, If that happened and you missed it, then she should be back in within the next month or two. Since with boxers particularly you need to wait until growth is finished, you wouldn't want to breed her this young anyway. Again, if she hasn't come in by eighteen months or so, having your vet do a look see couldn't hurt. But I wouldn't panic either way. Dogs, like women, are all different
