beagles broken back leg

My eight month old beagle broke his foot last week. My vet only splinted i but suspects a growth plate injury. Im just wondering 1 why they only splinted it 2 how log it usually takes to heal and 3 how to get him to stop chewingon it.

Most likely he only splinted it to allow for growth.
Healing time varies from injury to injury and dog to dog. Sorry I can't be more definite or helpful. There's just no way I can give you a time frame on that. MOST breaks heal in about six weeks.
As for chewing it. That's a tough one, try some bitter apple. Spray thoroughly or you can also use hot sauce. Anything that makes the bandage taste nasty.
