Question
hi, i just wanted to ask you if you know anything about a dogs eyes that are always watering, my dog had an eye infection, and was treated with salve that didn't work, so i took her back and was giver steroid eye drops, which i used for a week, the eye infection seems to have gotten better but her eyes are still watering. i was instructed to give her fish oil 500 mg a day on her food, do you think this will help stop her eyes from watering? is there an eye doctor for dogs?

Answer
There are veterinary ophthalmologists throughout the country.  Contact your local veterinarian for one closest to you.

Persistent eye discharge is an indication that something else is going on.  I would be concerned that your dog may have distichia (eyelashes that can grow inward instead of outward),  or entropion (eyelids roll inward and contact the cornea of the eye causing constant irritation), to name a few.  Different breeds are prone to different eye conditions.  To properly diagnose an eye, it should be examined thoroughly.  (It is difficult to give information without seeing your pet first hand.)

While fish oils are good for many conditions, I would recommend you get a diagnosis to best determine how to treat the eye.  Fish oils won't hurt, but it doesn't sound like it will help solve the problem either.
