Question
I have a 12 week old Blue Doberman which was rescue from the shelter. I have been trying to crate train him for the past 4 weeks, but it's hasn't been to successful. He will urinate in the crate, but he won't poop. I took him to the vet and discovered he had a urinary tract infection. I gave him the medicine for 2 weeks, but he still urinate in the crate. Could you please help me with this problem? When I put him in the crate he barking all the time. What am I doing wrong? I want him to be a house dog, but the constant urinating is a big problem.

Answer
what are you feeding? is your dog getting a LOT of fluids? You need to take him back for a recheck. Very often two weeks isn't enough time for an antibiotic to work on a UTI. And it could be resistant to that antibiotic. He may need a different one.
Lots and lots of liquids. Cranberry capsules as well> Vitamin E and C supplements.
The barking could be from discomfort because of the UTI. it could also be boredom or loneliness. Make sure he gets lots of play time and exercise out of the crate. Get him some toys that can be stuffed with treats, kongs etc. Don't give them to him any other time but crate time. Change them often to keep him from getting bored.
You're doing a great job. Just remember he's a baby and a sick one at that.
Good luck
