Too many dogs

Question
I'm a pet sitter with a client who has 6 dogs, 3 have physical disabilities.  These dogs are all sweet creatures but are allowed to relieve themselves throughout the house. I can't see how 6 dogs can get enough one on one attention.  Personally, I don't think the situation is beneficial or healthy for the dogs. This person took in 3 of the dogs as rescues and has a heart of gold.  Should I express my concerns or just do my job and keep my opinions to myself?  None of the animals are in harms way or mistreated.

Answer
Hi Liz,

While I agree with you, that dogs need care, attention and training. As far as the law goes, the bottom line is what you've noted: None of the animals are in harms way or mistreated. If you contact your local town clerk, and find out how many dogs one can legally own. But if she's forced to surrender a dog or two, would they wind up animal shelter? As much as you don't like the current situation, the dogs might have a better life living with your client.

How badly do you need this job? You might be able to have a dialog with the owner, if you handle it gently. That said, there's the possibility that speaking up, and telling your client your thoughts might mean you loose this client.

Best of luck,

Patti
