Shituz

We have a grown shiuz and recently her renal area has turned dark (and she is a white dog) and now her belly is getting spots of this color.  Is that normal or do you think it is a medical problem?

Answer
I doubt that this is anything to be concerned about, but the next time you take her in for something, have the vet check it out. Some light-colored dogs do seem to get pigment spots, particularly if they have been out in the sun, and as dogs age, some of them can get something similar to what we call "liver spots" in people.
