Dog ate something bad

Hi my dog got in the trash and ate something bad not sure what. He was having trouble pooping and it seem to be a bit runny.  He was moving around from spot to spot to get comfortable.  I took him for a long walk and I have given him some pumpkin.  The pumpkin seems to calm him.  he as drank hi water, but isn't eating all though he has eaten a treat. I have pushed and felt his bell and genital area to see if it caused pain and it didn't seem to irritate him. Is there anything else I can do for him or watch for?  He is a miniature schnauzer.

Fix it so that he cannot get into the trash ever again, and then fast him for 24 hours before feeding him again. This will give his intestinal tract time to settle back down. Let him have access to water.

Watch him closely, and if he seems to worsen or starts vomiting, give your veterinarian a call as you may have to take him in and have him checked out.
