Question
I HAVE 10 MONTH PEKAPOM WHO GOT PREGANET ON 1ST HEAT.SHE GAVE BIRTH 3 DAYS AGO AND I DONT HAVE A CLUE WHATS NEXT.MOM AND BABIES ARE GOOD.NEED TO KNOW WHEN I CAN BATHE MOM AND BABIES. WHEN BABIES EYES OPEN AND WHEN THE PUPPIES WILL WALK AND WHEN MY KIDS CAN HANDLE PUPS WITHOUT DISTRESSING THE MOTHER.

Answer
Hi Adrian,  Keep mom on a good puppy food & calcium supplement so you can make sure that she has enough calcium and doesn't get eclampsia from nursing puppies at too young of age.  Don't bathe them until the pups are at least 6 weeks old, and make sure they get completely dry.  Mom can be bathed sooner, but make sure no chemicals, like shampoo etc are left on her as the puppies can accidently ingest them.  Puppies open their eyes around 10-14 days old.  Puppies will start walking soon after, normally by 3 weeks old they are walking everywhere and you should start supplement feeding to start the weaning process.  Kids shouldn't handle pups for awhile as it can distress mother since she is so young and it is her first litter.  This is something you have to judge yourself by her attitude and reactions.  Hope this helps,
