Shaving poodle

Hi! My 1 year poodle hair got really tangled so I decided to shave his whole body down to the skin. How long will it take his hair to grow back? Was it a bad idea that I shaved his whole body? Will he get sick from not having any hair? I feel really bad now because I don't know if I did the right thing by shaving him so that his hair will grow back nicely. Please advise.

Hello Jasmine, no you did not do a bad thing, you actually did him a favor.  It would have hurt him to be dematted.  His hair will grow back fine and will usually be a nice 1/2 inch fuzz in about 6 to 8 weeks.  The trick is to brush him when he has virtually no hair thus no tangles and he will get used to it.  And may learn to like or tolerate it.  If he is a light coated dog, meaning has white or apricot hair, just be aware of how much direct sun he gets for about 2 weeks.  He will not get sick only he may sunburn some.  Thanks for the question and good luck, Cindy lou :)
