Question
how can u house break a dog? is there any tricks?

Answer
Hi Danielle,
Couple of tricks is to know your pup.  As soon as he wakes up he will have to go to the bathroom, sooooo right out the door.  He can't even wait until you go first in the morinings. Also, puppies have very small bladders so if he has not gone in awhile, he may have to go urinate, then his kidneys say "Oh your bladder is empty, lets fill it up again since we have been waiting"  Your pup will then have to go in about another 20 minutes.  Pups need to go within about 5-30 minutes after eating and also after excercise.
Crate training is really good to traain your pup, but the rule of thumb is 8 weeks out of crate every two hours, 12 weeks every four hours, 16 weeks they can usually go all night.    Soooo when the pup wakes, he goes out, then he goes into house where he is watched carefully.  Any sign of sniffing, he goes out again.
Also,  a pup must be housebroken  in EACH ROOM.  As he realized that he is keeping his "den" clean, he will claim a bigger and bigger area to keep clean, however, what he believes is not his den, will be an area where he feels he can go to the bathroom so watch carefully whenever you introduce him to a new room.  When he goes to squat make sure you get him right outside.

There are many books on housebreaking, but few of them tell you the above.  All in all if you can spend the first three weeks intensively on house breaking it will be a blessing for both you and your dog in the long run.
good luck
