Question
I have a male puppy(oreo) he has been with us for the past 3 months, he was fine for a while, but now he has become very snippy wont let us bathe him easily but worst is trying to clean his face, he at a point he is begriming to smell... nothing has happened to him that would give me a reason for this behavior..  I have kid from age 8 months to 1oyrs...they have not mistreated him... I keep an eye on that...I found a great family who adopted him but that same night they called for me too pick him up he was trying to bite everybody....Oreo is sweet he likes to cuddle but if you accidently put you're feet next tp him when he is under the table he instantly will try to bite,, he will bite if he gets ahold of you, it not just that he is growling... I want to get oreo neutered to see if there is any change,, Oreo is part of the family and I hate too give up on him what can you recommend

Answer
Oreo has obviously never learned bite inhibition, and he may be a very dominant dog who is too dominant for your family... particularly since you have small children in the family. He needs some behavior modification, and this is not something that can be done through the internet.

Get the name of a good animal behaviorist from your veterinarian, and in the meantime, get Oreo neutered, and then get him into some on-going obedience classes for several months and start working with him every single day. Start practicing "Nothing in Life is Free" with him. http://k9deb.com/nilif.htm  Everyone in the family must practice this with him.

You might also consider having a thorough vet exam to make sure that Oreo is healthy. Have his thyroid checked; some hypothyroid dogs do get aggressive. http://www.k9aggression.com/Aggression-Treatment/medical_issues.html

If you cannot change his behavior, the best thing to do would be to have the dog put down rather than place him with someone else. If he should bite someone, you could be sued.
